DETROIT – Henry Ford Hospital was honored today for its leadership and innovation in quality, safety and commitment to patient care by the American Hospital Association.
Henry Ford Hospital was presented with the 2010 AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality PrizeTM Finalist award at the AHA/Health Forum Leadership Summit in San Diego.
The Quest for Quality PrizeTM is supported by a grant from the McKesson Corporation. The prize honors organizations that are committed to improving safety, patient-centeredness, effectiveness, efficiency, timeliness and equity as the basis of a comprehensive quality-oriented health care system and have made progress toward making this vision a reality that other hospitals can emulate.
“Safety is a top priority at Henry Ford Hospital, and we’ve implemented proven health care improvement techniques to ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care possible,” says William Conway, M.D., Henry Ford Health System’s chief quality officer.
“Receiving this honor from the American Hospital Association is a testament to our vision to provide the level and manner of care that our employees would want for themselves and their families.”
Henry Ford Hospital has embedded the six Institute of Medicine aims in all of its safety and process improvement efforts. It also is actively involved in local and national organizations and improvement initiatives.
In 2007, Henry Ford Hospital adopted a “No Harm” campaign. The campaign focuses on enhancing the culture of safety, improving the clarity of clinical communications, identifying the top causes of harm as a hospital, and along the continuum of care and redesigning care to prevent harm.
Henry Ford Hospital also works closely with community members to create a care environment that reflects the specific needs of the people it serves. For example, to serve the needs of the large Arab-American population in the Detroit area, Henry Ford partnered with a community services organization to establish the Arab Community Center Obstetrics Clinic with Arabic-speaking female staff to encourage women to seek care.
The Quest for Quality PrizeTM award recipients and honorees were selected by a multi-disciplinary committee of health care experts.
