Parents can give their new
babies some positive strokes through an infant massage class offered by Beaumont Hospitals Aug. 10-31 in Troy.
Medical studies have shown that infant massage techniques promote growth and physical development, healthy parent-infant relationships and enhance vital early brain connections. In addition, these techniques can improve infants’ blood circulation and muscle tone, while nurturing growing communications in families.
The four-week “Infant Massage” program is being offered on Aug. 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the PNC Center, formerly the National City building, 755 West Big Beaver in Troy. The course will be held in Beaumont’s Community Education Classroom. It offers hands-on experience and guidance through a research-based massage routine that will benefit both baby and parents.
The fee is $30/family, and a certified infant massage instructor will teach parents massage techniques for infants up to six months old. Call Beaumont’s Physician Referral toll-free at 800-633-7377 for more information or to register.
The award-winning Parenting Program at Beaumont Hospitals combines hospital staff, community professionals and experienced parent volunteers to support and educate first-time parents. Volunteers are trained to provide individual family support or lead a group that presents topics of interest such as child development, safety, wellness and nutrition.
